hmmm... yes, you're on the right track! Doing
k8s_yaml(local("helm template -n dodgy-release ./charts/nginx-ingress"))
is a perfectly fine way to do more complex things with helm when the built-in doesn't have what you want.
Can you elaborate a bit on what you mean when you say "the specified release-name does not match the generated one, so the linkages are broken"? What do you want the release name to be? What linkages are broken?
I know very little about this chart, but I ran the local command above and it seemed to deploy ok for me.
