I too had the same issue, Silk screen is absent from KiCad gerbers.
To fix enable these settings in plotting:
- Use Protel Filename Extenstions
- Generate Gerber Job File
- Use auxiliary as origin
once complete rename the file with extention .gm1 with the new extension .gko
this resolved my issue using the latest release.
