To build on this, on my server it either crashes the client or the entire server when connecting. Here is the log of the client when the server does not crash and only the client crashes:

Yeah I figured that out. After leaving the server overnight and running /kill @e[type=item] I get the response that some 30K entities were removed, so that was causing the issue. Interestingly, it appears it resets dropped items when adding or removing this mod, which made it seem like it had fixed it

Turned out a broken machine was spitting out about 10 items per second. Add to that 24 hours and..
