Dependency requirement (ext-imap) breaks Composer udpate about fetch

If you do not want to add the extension to php-cli, you can use "composer install --ignore-platform-reqs" (composer/composer#1468)

Looks like a problem with Ubuntu or your setup. I do not have this issue with Fedora, Debian or even Windows. Perhaps the extension is not registed on the cli, try following:

php -m | grep imap 

Btw, Is there any specific reason why you are using dev-master and not a stable release?

Why the extension has to be registered on the cli? I have different PHP for the cli and for apache and imap extension is installed only for the apache.

Composer does check the dependencies on install-, not on runtime. As it runs in the cli (i hope ;-)), the extension also needs to be activated there.
