I would go with /tmp/swank-port.pid

That way you could even run multiple swanks against the same project.

mtm, you are, and I admit that, totally right at least on the one hand on the other hand the text file contains the port swank runs on, so naming it swank-4008.txt with the content 4008 seems somewhat redundant

Ah, by 'pid' I meant the 'process ID' of the swank session, not the port. Though, of course, you're right: we could go with just zero byte files named 'swank-port-4008', etc.

oh sneaky I didn't saw the .pid in the end, not sure what is better, I am not even sure. I thought you mean call it swank-4008.txt. I guess it is easyer to handle with the content inside as in read opposite to mangle file names so I guess the swank-port.pid is actually the better way - just my reading skills failed me when first responding :P

This actually does not prevent swank from working; it's just an annoying warning. Please reopen on the swank project if you'd like it fixed.
