This is probably due to the input buffer overflowing, which will cause Wayland to disconnect the client. I run into this issue with Factorio all the time, especially when debugging (the game obviously doesn't accept input events while it is stopped on a breakpoint). It is extremely obnoxious.
There is this merge request that allows compositors to resize input buffers, but I'm not sure what needs to happen to get that working in Sway.
