- I think that the extending trust to every issued currency for an issuer is due to the simplicity of the current stellar-client. In the future, users will hopefully be able to cherrypick which currencies they want to add. So this is more of a stellar-client issue which I personally think would be great to have.

If you, like me, think the stellar.txt approach is a rather weird design decision
what is the weird part?
from stellar-protocol.
To me it just seems like an artificial coupling.
As a configuration file for running your own stellard - OK.
As a configuration file for running your own federation service - Yeah, makes sense.
As a configuration file for issuing your own credits - This is where it starts becoming weird to me.
Everything you need to interact with a gateway is already accessible from the API, so using
stellar.txt for yet another unrelated thing makes it look more like a UX decision than anything else.
From a Sw-Eng PoV it's the (redundant) coupling that does it for me though.
