Using a hybrid_property within instantiation triggers getter function about sqlalchemy

While unfortunate, I think this is kinda expected behaviour. The default init does an hasattr call, and that will invoke the hybrid property.

@zzzeek do you have other solutions that aren't rewriting how the default init work?

I deleted my comment, I misunderstood.

yah this is based on hasattr(), if it fails, it fails. This is a subtle gotcha but I think people will have to figure this one out if they are using an unusual pattern like this one.

You can supply a custom init either locally in the class, or in the base class or when creating one using a function: https://docs.sqlalchemy.org/en/20/orm/mapping_api.html#sqlalchemy.orm.declarative_base.params.constructor
