I have the same question. How does one use the grails-data-mappings that are part of SpringData? Is there a standard way to install a particular mapping?

The neo4j plugin for grails does not use spring-data-neo4j. The latter uses an annotation based approach to give fine grained control on how the mapping happins. Since the main goal of the neo4j plugin for grails is to provide a as-close-as possible GORM compliant implemententation, I doubt if annoations would have been the right approach here. If there is more need for discussion, I suggest we continue on grails-user ml.

While I agree that annotations would not be appropriate here, a Map of Maps would be how I would expect to be able represent and manipulate edge properties.

Something like this

class Foo {
  Map <Bar, Map<String,Object>> = knownBars
}

While perhaps not the cleanest (and I didn't think too hard about it, just threw together a short example), it works for arbitrary attributes on edges.

There are likely many more strongly typed ways this could be done, but even having the ability to use a map for properties would be useful and likely fill many needs.
