Hey! (Sorry about the very delayed response!)
Yeah, it should be possible for me to make the framework more flexible and able to support different path locations. But there are a surprising number of places that need to know the path structure, and I think maintaining all of these with support for dynamic paths would be more work than I have time for right now. :(
I know it's really annoying to be forced to use any particular directory structure that you didn't choose, but is there any particular problem for your app with storing this library under /addons/surfacer/?
