Hey.
First of all, sorry for answering your question 2 years late 😛 I never really had the motivation to look into this.
My solution indeed had a problem. I just fixed it by using some established algorithm to address the issue.
I assume it might not be as much help for you anymore, but at least it clears my mind of this issue that has been hanging around forever :)
