This maybe possible now that Ubuntu 12.04 includes opencv 2.3 in the repos but I need to verify.

I have not, I basically gave up on it. Although I haven't tested since 12.04 came out which should have OpenCV 2.3 in the repos. The problem was that on their server it runs within a virtualenv, which I was able to setup fine for all of SimpleCV, except I couldn't seem to get OpenCV running out of a virtualenv, which I know would be possible except the default behavior is to ignore system libraries. Let me know if you have any suggestions, I'm very much open to it, even running our own travis instance hosted on ec2.

in my project https://github.com/sagioto/LipReading I use custom scripts to install openCV and other perquisites and then run tests that use the installation, you might find my .travis.yml and install scripts helpful
