It's a good idea, though the issue I can see is that we just use ActiveModel::Attributes
, and they don't have a placeholder, so we'll need a bunch of infrastructure around this. May I suggest for this specific case to use a Date as the type of your attribute? e.g.
The UI provided by the browser will be much better anyway than just a placeholder, and the value will be what you expect:

Ah I see. While UI wise we render textarea
s which support placeholders the underlying attribute system does not support such a key/value pair. Indeed using date
sounds like the best option. 👍
Will be closing this as while an interesting idea, it's probably not worth the investment right now.
