I think it's fine to close this as "won't fix" because we don't support this particular version of Numpy.
For the more meta-level reasons it was left open: we now have travis builds to test out released versions of numpy (so can catch problems with newer releases). We still haven't come up with a matrix of supported versions (e.g. numpy, matplotlib, astropy, gcc, ...), but that's outside the scope of this issue.
