@rngadam the repo for the XLSX project is https://github.com/SheetJS/js-xlsx :) I'll still deal with it here.

My guess is that LO's format string was invalid. Did you use some special formatting or the standard ones? If you used the standard ones, could you create a test file for the values 1, 12.3, TRUE (boolean) and "foo bar" (text) under the formats you used? To show you an example, look at the sheet "2011" in http://oss.sheetjs.com/test_files/number_format.xlsx

@rngadam version 0.4.1 of ssf has the fix, as does 0.3.6 of XLSX. I updated the gh-pages branch as well as sheetjs.github.io, so the fail should result in a weird result rather than OOM
