Yes, I'm getting this error too. I had to manually put in https:// before the url.

I believe this was an intentional change in the behavior of the oauth gem so you can specify http or https (whichever you prefer) on the application side rather than forcing you to use one or the other.

Because a correct URL should contain either http:// or https:// a preferred way would be to be able to call it like request_token.authorize_url(:scheme => 'https'). This way it would work with or without https and it would always return a correct URL. Could this be done?

This will not be fixed in the 0.9 series of the gem, since the release of version 1.0 is right around the corner, which removes the oauth wrapper altogether.

See the README for more information about changes in the 1.0 release.

You can start using a 1.0 release candidate today if you like. Just type gem install twitter --pre.
