Howdy,

I primarily use the XML output for integration with jenkins/hudson. (I've actually never used the XML report with the maven site plugin, as I don't use the site plugin). In jenkins, it's as simple as setting up a freestyl project, checking 'aggregate test results', and feeding it a comma-separated list of test report locations (that include things like surefire-reports/.xml, jasmine/.xml, etc.).

Edit: just realized that doesn't really answer your question. Does the workaround work for you or is something else lacking?

Yes it works, but I suppose that it assumes you are using the surefire plugin so probably not a good default. Perhaps just add its as an option in the documentation for people who do want maven to do the reports instead of hudson. I'll just leave it as is and report back any quirks I find :)
