I had similar problems, and I seams like the .rubocop file is (sometimes) ignored by haml-lint if it is not in the home directory. So this works for me: cp .rubocop ~/

Hmm, that's restricting. I use rubocop on a number of projects with different settings. I'll take a poke around the code and see if I can get a sense for how to fix it.

Good luck! I have the same situation with different projects and different settings, so I would appreciate a solution.

The problem is caused by the fact that haml-lint creates temporary Ruby files which it then passes off to Rubocop to scan. Since these temporary files are outside of the repository, Rubocop doesn't pick up the corresponding .rubocop.yml unless there is one in your home directory (as it always uses that as a fallback).

One thing we could do would be to figure out which .rubocop.yml would apply for a given .rb file in the directory that the HAML file is in, and then explicitly pass that configuration to rubocop.

If someone wants to try their hand at this, I'd be happy to merge a pull request. Otherwise I'll get to it when I can.

@sds thanks for investigating. Would it be an idea to put the temporary file in the same folder as the haml and delete it afterwards? With this the correct .rubocop.yml should be taken automatically.

It does look like Tempfile can accept an optional second parameter for location: http://www.ruby-doc.org/stdlib-1.9.3/libdoc/tempfile/rdoc/Tempfile.html#method-c-new

Thanks for the report!
