Had a quick chat with @danshilm on Discord. Here's the deal:

Comments that aren't constructive are being hidden to avoid clutter, especially +1's. If you want to show your support, add a thumbs up to the top comment. Seems like there is some collateral damage here in hiding comments, including the one saying don't comment +1's, but you can always head to Discord to chat with the team.

Implementing support for other media servers requires completely decoupling overseerr's dependency on plex. Right now, plex is required to even get overseerr up and running, since overseerr uses the plex admin account as its own admin account (among other things). Removing this dependency is a significant undertaking that would require a lot of communication with the core devs. That level of communication hasn't been present in past attempts to add emby/jellyfin.

There you have it. If you want to help work on this, go chat with the team on Discord!

So there’s no interest to add JellyFin support by Plexseerr devs. Got it. Thanks

I've worked with the Jellyfin API before any way I can help out with this?

This seems like an appropriate thread to lock until something more productive happens.

What else needs to be done to support other media servers? Are there related open issues?

From what I gather currrent devs don’t care much to add Jellyfin support, unfortunately.

Ikr. Not sure how to help. There's no sorta roadmap from what I can tell. Would be nice.

Yes, Support for Jellyfin would be really great.
Also, the API of Jellyfin is still very similar to Emby, so it's a 2 for 1 catch

I would love this feature to. Since Plex is more messing with things like gaming and IP TV instead of Core Media Playback.

This would be great. How much of a donation is required to have it happen?

from overseerr.

virusperfect avatar virusperfect commented on September 3, 2024

Unless you are willing to donate a massive amount I don't think that you can "buy" this feature. The developers do plan to implement it but it's just not a priority right now.

There is other work that needs to be done to enable adding additional media server options so Jellyfin support is currently blocked. We already have had a couple of people volunteer to get Jellyfin support added as soon as we're ready for it, but there is no ETA unfortunately. Feel free to join our Discord server to say hello and discuss!

Problem is Plexseerr team makes approaching them to add support difficult as possible. You’re better off forking it.

View minimized comments and you’ll have your answer. Plexseerr staff could give a rats ass about JellyFin. You’re better off forking it.

Since there are the few that would like to ruin it for the many. I will lock this thread until further notice. If there is something constructive you would like to discuss as it pertains to supporting Jellyfin please feel free to reach out on discord.

sct avatar sct commented on September 3, 2024

Just a small update. We are currently in the process of unlinking Plex as a requirement to setup/use Overseerr. This will open the floodgates for other media server integrations. See #3015
