I can assure you that it works. The error you are describing is what happens when you import an HTML file (or any other XML type file) instead of a JavaScript file. The most common reason for this is that you told the sheet to import an URL that point to an HTML page. Try downloading the JavaScript file (.js file extension) and then importing that.

I have had many people complain about this because they went to the GitHub page to view a JavaScript file and downloaded that page (or used that URL) thinking they would end up with a JavaScript file, but GitHub actually serves you an HTML file.
Make sure you download the file from the "RAW" GitHub page so that you are served a JavaScript file and not an HTML file.
