the no-as-needed was added recently to fix the broken toolchain on ubuntu 12.04, but apparently the mac one is even more broken...
if removing it fixes the build, we can special case it for mac in the configure script

so please remove -Wl,--no-as-needed and tell me if that works (i dont have a mac)
