@t3mp3l - the library is really designed to work with the template binding. However, if you needed to do something like this, then perhaps you could do:

        var source = new ko.templateSources.requireTemplate("home");

        ko.computed(function() {
            var value = source.text();

            if (value && value.length > 1) {
                ko.renderTemplate("home", {});
            }
        });

This would create a computed that would update when the template is actually loaded.
