Just like the early days of DOS, you just turn the power off.
It wasn't until hard drives started showing up in PCs that you had any sort of shutdown command/process and even then it was just to park the heads on those early 5 Megabyte platters :). That prevented the read/write heads from smashing into the disk platter if the disk was bumped.
