This can happen when outbound frames cannot be dispatched to the network quickly enough. This can be mitigated by setting appropriate values for the enqueuing timeout and the write queue capacity. The queue used to enqueue outbound frames before dispatching to the network can also be customized.

Yes, the NIO mode is more tweakable (and more capricious) than the blocking mode. I'm closing this one for now, you can re-open it or create another one if necessary.
