Let me share my experience. On, Android, it seems it works. On iPhone, it seems not working. It seems thay there will be never a chance for Apple to support this because it could cause a serious privacy violation.

@ohtangza do you have an example you could share of how you implemented this on the background in android?

If not do you have any snippets you could point me to?
I'm interested in both activating speech from background, as well as creating a dialogue with a user.

I realize I may be reaching here, but any help or experience you have with either of these would be greatly appreciated.

@lfoliveir4 Fala Luis! Acabei não dando andamento a essa feature por não ser algo crucial para o nosso projeto no momento. Assim que finalizarmos as prioridades, devo retomar a ideia. Em último caso, se não encontrar nenhuma solução pronta via RN, vou criar o serviço pelo lado nativo mesmo.

It works fine on iOS. Just set Background Mode: audio in info.plist or on Capabilities tab on project settings in XCode.
