Using $session.path= and the info hash you can easily construct the path to the copy in the session dir.

Having access to the rTorrent XML/RPC interface does not imply access to the file system - it runs on servers quite often, where you only have access to rTorrent and the downloads folder.

BTW, to safely get the binary parts across, cat should be replaced by base64 or similar.
