I do have shared runners enabled for the project, but individual contributors will have to also enable shared runners if they want their merge requests to run CI (which they do!)

I just pushed a .gitlab-ci.yml file from importlib.resources so that should hook into the GitLab CI pipelines. I realize that we do need to add Python 3.7 support to that file.
