We also probably need a logo.

We have a logo, but it'd be nice if someone with some design sense gave us some feedback on the current UI elements (propertysheets, the folder contents page, the breadcrumbs, the top bar, etc).

This is probably related to #114 (we might be able to purchase a theme from wrapbootstrap.com, although none look particularly suited at the moment).

I'd like to participate on this issue. Can you share some of the things you have in mind? What works well, what needs improvement, etc.?
There are several administrative templates that might fit the bill, but only 3 are currently TB3 compliant.
If not, then I could create a basic one starting from one of the TB3 starter templates and edit it using Pingendo.

Well what we have (http://substanced.repoze.org u: admin p: admin) is functionally fine, it's just a little bland. We also need to update it to bootstrap 3 at some point (probably before we do any theming). But it's the general gist of things, and though it works, it's just a little stock. I don't have any hard and fast ideas about how it should be themed, but something in that spirit that isn't quite so bootstrap-default is likely in order.

FTR, I do like the non-flat buttons of bootstrap 2, and when we upgrade to bootstrap 3, I'm likely to apply the bootstrap 2 theme to it if nothing better comes along.

See theme example using TB3. That theme uses TB3 CSS class names with tweaks to the CSS to restore the gradients on buttons as in TB2.
Be aware of migration between TB2 and 3. Many classes have been renamed.

Moving from BS2 to BS3 could involve some work depending on how markup and classes were used. Honestly, the new grid system is awesome :)
Giving a new theme shouldn't be too hard but would take some time to adapt depending of the number of widgets you are using, like select2 and slickgrid.
from substanced.
We basically have to upgrade to BS3 anyway, as deform2 uses it.
from substanced.
They don't share the same set of assets so you can have them not using the same version, but with stock BS it'll look better if they use the same version, UI-wise. And for long-term it'll be wiser to switch anyways.

Sounds like we should create a new branch to implement TB3.
What is the naming convention for branches? Is this a feature, e.g. "feature.twitterbootstrap3"?
from substanced.
Sure, or just feature.bs3 or something.
from substanced.
Be sure to use https://github.com/Pylons/deform/tree/deform2
from substanced.
https://github.com/Pylons/substanced/tree/feature.deform2 (includes bs3 and jq2 updates)
from substanced.
FWIW a demo site using this branch is now at http://demo.substanced.net
from substanced.
Closing, as the design in the feature.deform2 branch is more or less intentional.
