Nothing you did wrong, it's a bug in the packaging. I'm afraid I didn't properly test installing in the system site-packages.

Could you try running the setup as "./setup.py install --user" and run solaar.py from ~/.local/bin ?

Hi @pwr, I did as you asked and still see this issue. Strangely, this doesn't seem to happen if I run Solaar straight from the Solaar/bin/ directory, only after installing.

I'm having the same problems, trying to package into a RPM package for openSUSE 12.2.

Installing as user does not work either:

lemmy@sai:~/Work/susebuildservice/home:lemmy04/Solaar/Solaar> python setup.py install --user
running install
error: can't combine user with with prefix/exec_prefix/home or install_(plat)base

ok, managed to install as user... same error, and icons aren't found.

Just released 0.8.5, this should fix the problem with icons.

Before installing the new version, make sure you remove the old packages (in /.local/lib and/or /usr/lib) and icons (/.local/share/solaar and/or /usr/share/solaar). Unfortunately setup.py does not know how to uninstall packages, so you'll have to do it by hand.

Until I manage to build some distro packages, I recommend installing with --user; much easier to clean-up afterwards and you don't have to worry about setup possibly mucking up the system.

works fine now! openSUSE 12.2 rpm package is here:

as a suggestion... color-code the lux value for the keyboard... red, yellow, green, similar to the solar app on windows, so that one can know if one's desk lamp is bright enough to charge the thing :)
