Why should the pid file be deleted? I've always felt like the pidfile is owned outside of puma, since puma itself doesn't use the pidfile for anything.

I'm assuming @calavera was having the same issue I was, which was that Puma was refusing to start because of the pid file being present. If that's been fixed, then it's probably correct to leave the file alone.
