Using scala library 2.8.0 about clj-kafka

Hi,

It's set to 2.8.0 because that was the version the Kafka library depended on- there wasn't a Kafka JAR published so I had to publish myself and didn't do a great job of setting up dependencies in the Kafka POM.

I'd be happy to update it in line with a more recent Kafka release- I think there was some work on getting a proper published release out for it too.

i see what you mean now.. i forked it and played around with the client uning a local build of kafka and was able to use scala 2.9.2 and upgrade your project. but there needs to be a public version huh...hmmm.. im nto even sure how to proceed with that.. do you? Feel free to check out my fork.

it's been a while since i followed whether kafka had an officially produced
JAR. i'll take a look.

do you need to upgrade the scala jar for another dependency?

yeah another library was using it.. we just pushed a kafka build and a fork of your pro0ject into our internet github and repo for now.. works ok.. thanks!!

I'm not sure of the implications of updating the scala dependency to a
version not used by Kafka. Having said that, the Kafka dependency is pretty
old now.

0.8 isn't released yet but it looks like its a little closer to being
publishable in a maven repository:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-133

Perhaps this is something better to just wait when 0.8 is released with a
proper binary?

Hi,

A quick update- we're looking at migrating to 0.8 internally at uSwitch. As part of this we've setup an internal CI build of Kafka 0.8 that publishes a SNAPSHOT to Clojars.

Currently we're building for Scala 2.9.2. The JAR is available here: https://clojars.org/com.uswitch/kafka_2.9.2

I'm going to close this issue as on the 0.8 branch we're now using Kafka 0.8 w/ Scala 2.9.2.
