I think this is a project-wide issue.
Osascript doesn't check if apps are running before executing and it will only work on OSX.

Multiple commands have errors with osascript.

Yeah, it is a project wide issue. Generally, it needs to understand context: where is it running (iTerm2, Terminal, maybe some other environment), what is installed, etc.
