Looks like windows console support is behind linux support for colours. Probably not worth trying to do anything beyond ANSI schemes and so colorama is a good fit. Should try to standardize on a single API for all platforms though.

That still leaves the issue of non-blocking keyboard input and screen dimensions. These will require windows specific extensions. Hopefully pywin32 will cover enough of the console API to do that.

Looks like pywin32 does the trick for resizing, non-blocking input and colour output if you rummage around MSDN and the Python wrappers long enough... Proof of concept is now working with win_demo.py.

Still need to check up Linux is not broken and fix some hacks/missing features for Windows.

Basic API now works. Still some rough edges in the handling of resize events, but it passes all the samples.
