ER: Enable compression for NTFS about rufus

Reason 1:
Windows ISO would fit on a 4GB usb key if the compression was on right from the beginning. Since we do not have the option to turn on compression before copying, it does not fit.

Reason 2:
USB (2.0) is quite slow. Thus a compression by 50% also doubles the speed since only half the data has to be transmitted.

Downside:
For Windows ISO the file "bootmgr" has to stay uncompressed to be able to boot on every system. But that can be done manually later, as well.

Please see the cheat mode section of the FAQ and especially the one for Alt-N. You may also be interested in Alt-S if you use compression. Now, if that doesn't work, you are 100% on your own, as these cheat mode are unsupported.

Oh, and before you ask, what currently exists is what you get. Especially, I'm not going to add extra code to handle an uncompressed bootmgr just so you can potentially use an old 4GB drive, because that request falls entirely in paragraph 2 of this other FAQ entry.

Ah, ok, thanks. I googled the feature and Google sent me here and not to the FAQ. That might be a problem also for other users if the feature is hidden too well...
