I've since purchased the new esp8266 platform and haven't looked back. I'm still not sure the utility of this, since you'll need to interface with the GPIO, and passing that through the container, while perhaps possible, might be fragile.

EDIT: I managed to clear the issue I referenced above, this is now complete and I am moving on to physical/operational testing.

Thanks John for you work on the dockerfile, it helped saved me a lot of time. Please let me know if you want to collaborate on the issues you mentioned.
