Does it print "Calibrate your Leap screen feature"? That means you did not use the Screen Location Calibration.
The problem is: Leap Motion recently removed that feature called Screen Location Calibration.
This was already discussed in Issue #14
I think there are two possible ways to go. Either wait for Leap Motion to bring back the missing feature or program something similar ourselfs...

@markusbona It does not print "Calibrate your Leap screen feature." The following is the output that I get:
Use --finger (or blank) for pointer finger control, and --palm for palm control.
Use -h or --help for more info.
Using finger mode...
Adding Listener.
Calibrate your Leap screen feature
Initialized
Press Enter to quit...

Newest commit causes program to exit after this happens, so it's more clear what's going on.

I am not sure if this helps but latest linux beta driver 1.0.9+8409 seems to introduce some new hand/ finger/ tool isolation. I need to look at this in more detail to see if it provides what you need or an alternative to it, but just thought to bring it up.
Edit: just looked if there is, it is not documented.
