target_defined mode in gnmi_cli client about gnmi

Not all options have a shortcut command line option to set them. TARGET_DEFINED is one of the options that does not have an explicit command line option. However, TARGET_DEFINED is the default. If you wanted to set to anything other than TARGET_DEFINED, you would need to construct the full SubscribeRequest message and send via the -proto option.

Thanks. Good to know that Target_defined is by default.
what will be input for the -proto option.
Is it referring to encoding (JSON/PROTO etc)?

-proto allows you to input a textproto (i.e., the text rendering of a protobuf message - see https://developers.google.com/protocol-buffers/docs/overview) of the raw request that you'd like. For example, one can input a SetRequest message to specify options other than those that are plumbed through the CLI per Carl's point.
