Need to decide best way to display these annotations.
- The simplest way would be to display comments inline next to the annotations as in Google Docs
- Alternatively the contents of the annotated element could be pulled out and displayed in a lightbox as in Safari Reader with annotation displayed in a sidebar. This would be considerably more complex.

Both docco and option 1 seem similar. Key issue is alignment.

Hacked up test page outlining a lightbox style display where comments are displayed in a sidebar on the left and annotated content on the right.

I'm still not sure how much this plugin adds to the project. the source for the demo is saved in a gist in case it's needed.

Bumping this as a reminder to myself to see what the OpenKnesset guys got up to.

Hey guys, i'm watching the annotator project and just saw this. The marginviewer plugin (aka sidebar theme) is still a WIP. We've had our UI/UX volunteers prepare some sketches.. I'll send them over so you can see what we're doing.
At the moment, i'd say we're at about 70-80% done with development on the client side, and the backend (annotator store written in django piston) is not far behind. Thing is there are a lot of usability corner cases that we realized only after starting to work on it. We'd be more than happy to share our progress.
Also - we are doing our best to adhere to the google docs comment model. Most of the behavior is very similar to gdocs, except that there are some minor differences in usability. I'll do my best to translate UI/UX design docs and feature parity matrix this week

@habenaf curious where marginviewer stands; I'm eager to try it out if there's a usable version available... Cheers.

@jamiefolsom still working on it, not much to show yet

Gotcha. Let me know if I can help in any way in particular -- happy to test, code, etc. Just getting my feet wet with Annotator, but I may well build something on it soon, and would be eager to contribute. Thanks!

Hey habeanf, same for me - I'd be happy to beta test etc. Just let me know if there's something in the works.

I'm also looking for something like this, but I don't see any documentation for how to use the MarginViewer in git.

I'm going to close this ancient issue in favour of more recent discussions in, e.g. #197.
