Note: unless you also specify one or more of HashedControlPassword or CookieAuthentication, setting this option will cause Tor to allow any process on the local host to control it.

I haven't experimented with a system Tor very much in any environment besides Tails actually. But I know that OnionShare works great in OSX if you have Tor Browser running (it will auto-connect to Tor Browser's tor on 9151). You can download Tor Browser Bundle here: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en

However, it should also work with a system tor. The control port isn't enabled by default when you install a system tor, and it does indeed make sense to keep your control port password protected. Right now OnionShare doesn't support using a password either. I just opened #21 to address this.

@MartinBetz is it working for you now with either Tor Browser or a system tor control port? If so I'll close this issue.

I think this issue will go away when #21 is done. In the meantime, opening Tor Browser Bundle in the background should work.
