Make sure you're utilising the new SteamPipe directory structure for custom files. I can give you more information in half an hour or so; on my phone right now.

With the SteamPipe update custom files need to be placed in common/team fortress2/custom/ in its own folder (named whatever you would like).

For Example, place your resource/ and scripts/ folders inside common/team fortress 2/custom/tf2hud/

If you continue to have issues, a quick google should turn up some steampipe guides.

Yup, that answers it.

Also, there is currently a bug on the Linux version of TF2 where the custom folder name has to be entirely lower-case.
