@sumurthy This is a question about whether Office Scripts supports getting data from other spreadsheets. @alison-mk We also may need to update docs for clarity either way?

correct! Essentially trying to have one Excel be my single source of truth and have it update other Excel sheets. All the data is stored within the same SharePoint

@mhusk, Currently, an Office Script runs on a single workbook at a time. You could use Power Automate to combine multiple scripts in different workbooks into a single flow. There's a series of PA-centric tutorials that teach the platform and how to both pass data to and return data from workbooks using scripts:

I'll pass this along to the product team to confirm this answer. Would you be willing to share your scenario? That way, we can consider how to best help solve your problems and improve Office Scripts.

Hi @mhusk,

@sumurthy confirmed with me that Power Automate is currently needed scripts to work with multiple workbooks. He has a sample here: https://github.com/sumurthy/officescripts-projects/tree/main/Event%20Cross%20Reference

We are working on new APIs to link to an external workbook from a script and pull data from that workbook. Those should be available soon.

@AlexJerabek I can share my scenario. I am not super well versed with Power Automate. I can share my use case

@mhusk This might be a better discussion to have on Stack Overflow (with the "office-scripts" tag). There's actually a related question already there: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/65547948/read-data-from-another-excel-workbook-using-office-script

@mhusk Thanks for the question. Please feel free to reach out to me suramam (at) microsoft . com for any details you may have on the scenario. Very curios to learn about it and verify that our upcoming API will support your scenario. Also sent a connect over LinkedIn. You can use either medium for next comm. Thanks!
