No, there isn't. I've successfully upped a 17.1MB file (not to the Pi though, just during tests) and I think that @jjg also printed some large taj mahal model that came out with >20MB gcode (that was a couple of weeks back though).
The "Loading" stays there until the request returns from the backend, so the file probably was not finished writing to disk when you refreshed. What does the log in '~/.octoprint/logs/' say?

Well, that of course would explain weird behaviour. I don't know how timelapse-happy you are with OctoPrint, but the files tend to grow kinda big (MPEG2, I started looking into whether there's any option to use the hardware accelerated h264 encoder on the Pi), so you could probably instantly free up a lot of space there.
