Please post ntopng issues under ntopng. As of your question this functionality does not work for non physical interfaces (it looks you are using ZMQ).

Yes we use ZMQ and yes we use a virtual Machine.

So in this case all works as expected. if you want to save packets (in ZMQ format) please file an issue under ntopng and we'll try to implement it.
