Another option might be to simply change the /api to include a endpoints directory, and then change .sync("api/**/*.{js,ts}", to .sync("api/endpoints/**/*.{js,ts}", .

This way, the helpers/utils can live in any structure inside api, and still be accessible to the endpoint handlers, and then a env var for exclusions will not be needed. Thoughts?

Our idea was that if a file exposes a single default function that will translate to an endpoint.

ex:

module.exports = (req, res) => {
  const { name = "World" } = req.query;
  res.send(`Time to save the world! ${name}!`);
};

If you instead expos multiple functions it will not translate to an endpoint.

We should make this clearer in the documentation and also make sure it's the case.

I think we should avoid extra configuration files or other implicit rules (such as a endpoints directory).
