G'day! 👋

My name's Matt. I research past and present climate change, mostly through ice cores, and mostly in/around Antarctica. I dabble in open-source software development (chiefly R) to help answer research questions.

Here's where to find me:

A large portion of my work to date has been related to the analysis of fluorescent organic matter (FOM) in ice cores, which was the core focus of my PhD, and has been the focus of a significant amount of my coding efforts.

I have also spent quite a bit of time running, and analysing outputs from, NOAA's HYSPLIT atmospheric trajectory model.

R packages (functional)

Research inevitably involves grappling with new problems, or adjusting pre-existing approaches. I've made a range of R packages to help along the way:

R packages (work-in-progress)

These packages are ongoing projects that may or may not function currently:

Matt Harris's Projects

compiling-era52arl icon compiling-era52arl

A step-by-step guide used to compile the NOAA ARL era52arl program on Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.1

cs3 icon cs3

Component versus Sample Spectral Similarity (CS3) for EEM-PARAFAC model verification

dlmet icon dlmet

Remotely scrape and bulk download data from the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory ftp server. Defunct package, left here as a reference repo for other projects.

eemr icon eemr

Utilities for pre-processing emission-excitation-matrix (EEM).

eemutils icon eemutils

Various functions for working with EEM fluorescence data in R under the eemR/staRdom/EEM framework

era5handlers icon era5handlers

Simple functions for reading and analysing ERA5 reanalysis data from the Copernicus CDS

lwia.r icon lwia.r

Functions to parse data generated by the LGR Liquid Water Isotope Analyser (LWIA) post-analysis software program.

metfetchr icon metfetchr

An automated met fetching system for ERA-5 reanalysis data

openair icon openair

Tools for air quality data analysis

qmk_firmware icon qmk_firmware

Open-source keyboard firmware for Atmel AVR and Arm USB families

samplequeue icon samplequeue

A file handling and processing framework for the Horiba Aqualog fluorometer sample queueing system

splitr icon splitr

Use the HYSPLIT model from inside R and do more with it

stardom icon stardom

staRdom is a package for R to analyse fluorescence and absorbance data of dissolved organic matter (DOM).

trajspatial icon trajspatial

Spatial and temporal analysis of trajectory endpoint data from NOAA's HYSPLIT model
