Ditching them for now & circling back sounds like a good idea. On the topic of tags-vs-categories: the more I think about, the more I'd lean towards tags if we added anything, seems they can be used less as an app architecture and more as a user driven filtering/organizing tool. But that could be a good candidate for a later enhancement.
Oh man that's an interesting point about values-vs-activities, they seem like two distinct groups at first blush but on examination the actual line of separation is pretty fluid. Hopefully starter/example content could help guide the user? Like, "exercise" could go in either, but "fitness" and "jogging" are more easily identifiable.
I too am down for just continuing on & circling back on this ambiguity.

I vote we ditch the idea of categories right now, get things more set up, and then see how things feel. It's hard to know how they'll be most useful or if they're useful at all until actually using it.
Your thoughts, @alexburner ?

As I'm working on this, I'm having trouble finding the clearest way to differentiate values and activities. As we've got it now, both are formatted as -ing gerundsβone's just a little broader and one's a little more specific.
That's all well and good, but having trouble figuring out how we'd communicate how to set the things up to users. Like, how do you differentiate Experiencing Nature and Going Camping other than by specificity?
The intention is to communicate that there are many different ways you can accomplish Experiencing Nature, with Going Camping being one of them. I don't know, still feel like I'm missing a critical distinction that'll make it clear what's going on.
For now, I'm going to continue on and assume we'll figure out a clear way to communicate this and/or a some kind of elegant reworking that make it all clear.
