I just stumbled on this yesterday and have enjoyed setting it up - really hoping for this feature to get added some time soon!

Yes, there will be an expansion in the future and it is being worked on carefully to avoid conflict with the addition of exceptions options.

Minor changes in the settings(default) section will be documented in the next update.
The options and syntax method are modified to be more flexible.

your popup menu run from process SystemSettings.exe > rundll32.exe

Remove this line or ignore it by add // like this:

// exclude.where = !process.is_explorer

That seems to have fixed the issue, although I can't seem to use my existing configuration with it. Even with a lot of tweaks to fix the errors reported in the log, it seems like the overall syntax has changed?
