Well, the most noticeable difference is the foreground color - which is in fact how disabled style is usually indicated on windows. Although I agree that there are some similarities

With flat button I was mostly going to try to have the look of this:

In other words, a plain old-style look. Sadly, WPF does not offer any built-in mechanism for this look the way Windows.Forms does, so I had to emulate it, and that was the closest I got.

I remember looking at stackoverflow for this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/697381/setting-button-flatstyle-in-wpf
But I don't remember if I ended up using that solution or something different.

If you can find a better way to solve this problem, consistent with the normal Windows look, I will not oppose the change.

You didn't, I tried this exact method just to see how it looked. I'm not sure it's the right look either. I think the intention of @slluis is for a button that blends in, like ShowFrame on TextEntry, but he'd have to clarify. If this is the case, we should mimic GTK.

Yes, when using the flat style, the button should just blend with the background and the border should only be shown when moving the mouse over it.

Sounds like we need to paint it ourselves?

Sounds like we need to paint it ourselves?

I wouldn't say that, we just need a custom style.

Sounds like we need to paint it ourselves?

Probably not. WPF has some pretty good theming features.
