Well... had to pick one or the other, so the decision was to go with aliases. Mainly because aliases are already formatted as valid C# tokens whereas names can contain iffy chars as you say. So even if we were to use names, we would have to sanitize them.
Would be rather easy to do, though. Just would need to be an option... to derive content & property names from the name rather than the alias.

Won't do. Low priority. Plus, if we derive from names, it will not be exactly the name (because of iffy chars) and so you have to look at the code to figure out what's the name in the end. So we keep using aliases. And if someone wants a different name, it's always possible to rename content and property models.
