Hi, are you compiling from source or are you using conda to install megaman? We encountered this bug and made a change that should fix it, but I don't believe that it is live in the latest release. I will work on getting a new release out soon.
You can try installing from source and see if that changes it. Otherwise try explicitly encoding it as a byte:
adjacency_method = adjacency_method.encode('utf-8')
I will update this when we have a new release.
